Alphabet Backwards

The 26 letters of the English alphabet written in reverse order: Z Y X W V U T S R Q P O N M L K J I H G F E D C B A. It is a fixed sequence, unlike backwards text, which depends on whatever you type.

Learn it in chunks rather than letter by letter. Practice ZYX, WVUT, SRQP, ONML, KJIH, GFEDCBA as six short groups, then chain the groups together as they become familiar.

A substitution cipher where each letter maps to its opposite in the alphabet: A becomes Z, B becomes Y, C becomes X, and so on. For the English alphabet this is the Atbash cipher, one of the oldest known ciphers.

Apply the same substitution again. Because the cipher pairs each letter with exactly one partner, encoding and decoding are the same operation — HELLO becomes SVVOK, and running SVVOK through the table returns HELLO.
